State Assemblyman Michael P. Kearns, D-Buffalo, is calling on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to commit to keeping the Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center in West Seneca.
Kearns said more than 10,000 people want to keep the center in West Seneca, according to surveys he has received and signatures collected at the Erie and Wyoming county fairs.
A Bill passed unanimously by the State Legislature would keep the center in West Seneca instead of moving it to the grounds of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, which is being renovated for the move.
Kearns sent a letter to Cuomo on Wednesday asking for his commitment to keep the West Seneca center open. The goal of Kearns' campaign is to receive the commitment before the Legislature sends Cuomo the bill for his approval.
